Most first ring suburbs, defined as those communities immediately surrounding city lines, are also losing ground. Notice this graphic indicating population declines in some of Buffalo's suburbs. Except for the census years of 2000 and 2010, the populations are estimated by the Census Bureau. The slight increase for 2010 is the result of the fact that the Census Bureau overestimated the population decline in the previous few years.
