Buffalo State Voter Empowerment Rally Honors Cindy Havey

November 1, 2024

On October 24, Cindy Havey was surprised to be recognized as an Outstanding Community Partner at the rally to celebrate the new on-campus polling site for elections conducted by the Erie County Board of Elections. The League was one of the co-sponsors of the rally. Lisa Kragbe, Assistant Director of Civic and Community Engagement, presented the citation, which read in part: “The Bengal Vote Coalition wanted to honor the League of Women Voters for all their support this past year. We had a staffing gap in 2022, and the organization went above and beyond…that fall. Cindy Havey took the extra time to mentor Lisa as a new staff member. She hosted an advocacy training in Spring 2024, and successfully advocated with the Board of Elections to move our polling location back on campus. She assisted us in launching our ALL-IN Campus Democracy Challenge to have 100% of the campus registered to vote in four years.”

We’re fortunate that Cindy Havey is a League board member and volunteers in such a meaningful manner as the campus liaison to Buffalo State University. She richly deserves the recognition she received on October 24.
