Conversations Along the Canal

On August 8, communities across New York State will gather for Conversations Along the Canal, a statewide day of civic engagement honoring the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.  Here in Western New York, you are invited to join us August 8th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Gateway Harbor Pavilion located at One Young Street in Tonawanda.

Our system of canals, rivers and lakes were instrumental in building New York State. Join us as we come together along those same waterways to celebrate one of our nation’s most significant civil rights achievements and reaffirm our shared commitment to democracy. The Voting Rights Act expanded access to the ballot, but its legacy depends on each generation choosing to participate.

The most powerful tool we have is our right to vote. Being an informed voter requires conversations with a neighbor, friend, coworker, or family member to inspire someone to register, volunteer, or cast their ballot.  On August 8, let’s celebrate our shared history by investing in our shared future.

Every conversation matters. Every voice matters. Every vote matters.
