The League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara (LWVBN) offers a variety of services through its dedicated committees and discussion groups, each contributing to the organization’s mission of promoting informed and active participation in government.
Community Partners Committee for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Community Partners Committee is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within the LWVBN and the broader community. It works to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral parts of the organization’s activities and outreach efforts. The committee organizes educational programs and initiatives to raise awareness and promote understanding of DEI principles.
Election Services Committee
This committee collaborates with local boards of elections to provide essential services during election periods. Its responsibilities include assisting with voter registration, ensuring the accuracy of voter rolls, and supporting the smooth operation of polling stations. The committee’s efforts are vital in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of the electoral process.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee focuses on recruiting and retaining members for the LWVBN. It develops strategies to engage new members and ensure they are integrated into the organization’s activities. The committee organizes orientation sessions and provides resources to help members understand and participate effectively in the League’s initiatives. It also arranges social functions for members and friends.
Voter Services Committee
Dedicated to empowering voters, the Voter Services Committee provides nonpartisan information about elections, candidates, and voting procedures. It organizes voter registration drives, candidate forums, and educational workshops, while participating in Naturalization Ceremonies to inform the public about their voting rights and the importance of civic participation.
Great Decisions Discussion Group
The Great Decisions Discussion Group is part of a nationwide program that encourages informed discussion on global affairs. Participants engage in facilitated discussions on critical international issues, enhancing their understanding of foreign policy and its implications. This program fosters thoughtful dialogue and a deeper appreciation of global interconnectedness.
